Born in 1950 in Klosters, Beny Steiner has had an extraordinary international career, from her beginnings in the picturesque region of Grisons to Kabul and the bustling fashion capitals of Milan, Paris and London. Initially working as a model, she developed a unique aesthetic that translated into a successful career as a stylist in New York, before moving on to photography. Since returning to the Engadine in 2008, she has created intimate, poetic images that capture the serene beauty of nature – birds in flight, drifting clouds. Despite the gradual loss of her eyesight, Steiner has shifted her focus to capturing the interplay of light and shadow, movement and stillness – opening up new ways of interpreting the world around her. Each photograph reveals a fresh perspective on the natural world, deeply rooted in the cyclical nature of the seasons and the focal point of Piz Pizoc, the mountain that stands guard outside her home. Her exploration of the serene alpine landscapes reflects her resilience and connection to nature through her art.
